The 26.7 Mile Marathon

Running a marathon can be taxing enough without race organizers making it more even more difficult. Unfortunately, that’s what happened during last week’s Colorado Colfax Marathon in Denver. After runners complained that their times were much slower than normal, an investigation found the course was actually 26.7 miles. It turns out an extra half mile was added to the course when the runners were steered the wrong way. The good news is that runners hoping to use their times to qualify for bigger races will be able to use adjusted times. The mileage mix-up was only one of many problems that plagued the race. Apparently people also complained about a “dearth of toilets.” There’s no doubt the extra half mile only served to exacerbate that problem.
