The Birth of the Lincecum Delivery

It’s gotta be the wind-up. Last night, with the help of his unique slingshot pitching motion, Giants rookie Tim Lincecum turned in his 4th straight quality start. Lincecum’s delivery has already garnered lots of attention, some of it from those who believe it’s the perfect fusion of different body parts working together, and some of it from those who believe its violent force will lead to injury.
The story of the delivery begins before Lincecum was even born. Lincecum’s dad, Chris, has had a fascination with pitching ever since an uncle taught him how to grip a curveball when he was 6 years old. Even after his pitching career ended, Chris spent years studying pitching mechanics and designing the perfect delivery. Then he had kids. Tim’s lithe flexible body has been a perfect fit for hid dad’s meticulously crafted delivery. It still remains to be seen whether Tim’s arm will hold up through the stress of a full major league season, but as of now he’s giving hope to every 150 pound high school senior who dreams of being a major league pitcher.
