Madden ‘08 Takes It Up A Notch

EA Sports continues to work hard to blur the line between the video game world and real world. In the past, a serious injury to an NFL player could destroy an actual team’s season and your fantasy team’s season. Now, starting this year, it can also destroy your Madden team’s season. Thanks to a partnership between EA and ESPN, Madden ‘08 will have an unprecedented amount of real-time content. I’ll let PS3 Fanboy explain:
If a player gets injured, guess what? He won’t be on the team in your game. If it’s raining in such-and-such stadium for real, it’s going to be pretty wet for you in the game, too. On the flipside, stat increases will crop up to reflect a player who’s having an unexpected hot season.
There are still many questions to be answered. First and foremost, will the real-time updates take into account legal problems? If Chris Henry is suspended for hotboxing a stolen SUV with two 16 year-old girls, will that affect your team’s week 11 lineup?
It will be interesting to see how it all works out, but overall I like the idea of Eli Manning having a slew of four interception games, and then not even being able to take solace in dominating Madden because his real life performance will have made his video game too bad to throw a touchdown pass.
