It’s A Guaranteed Victory…Or Not

Throughout the history of sports numerous players have guaranteed victories, but last night may have been the first time an entire team guaranteed a victory. The audacious proclamation came courtesy of arenafootball2’s Boise Burn.

The Boise Burn made some bold moves earlier this week in an attempt to halt their six-game losing streak. In reaction to the Burn’s recent slide, Boise’s front office is promoting its 7 p.m. game against Tri-Cities (6-5 overall, 5-3 West) as “Guaranteed Win Night at Qwest Arena.”

The Burn backed up their guarantee with the one thing everybody wants—pizza. If the team lost they promised every fan a free pizza buffet from Primos All You Can Eat Pizza, Pasta, and Salad.

Unfortunately, the Burn failed to deliver on their promise—the team fell to the Tri-Cities Fever 55–42.  Sure, it wasn’t the win they were looking for, but at least the Burn can take solace in the moral victory that comes from holding your opponent under 60 points. Perhaps the Yankees should try guaranteeing victories to jump start their season. It has to work better than signing Ron Villone.

This is actually a fairly common promotion, especially throughout minor league baseball. How can you get people to come out and see a losing team? Give them something free if the team loses again.
