Arizona Is Going to Party Like It’s 1998

Remember that big Super Bowl kick-off party the Arizona Super Bowl Committee is planning to throw in late October? The committee just booked the music group that will headline the extravaganza and it’s not quite the “mainstream group with crossover appeal” they were hoping to get. It’s Sugar Ray.
That’s good news for any 14-year-old girls from 1998 who are brought to the party in a time machine. It’s bad news for all the people who aren’t titillated by the thought of seeing a band that hasn’t had a record deal since 1996 and has a lead singer whose current claims to fame are hosting a popular infomercial and an unpopular reality show.
What happened? Were Smash Mouth and the Goo Goo Dolls already booked? The only excuse for bringing in Sugar Ray is if it’s part a “Turn Back the Clock to 1998″ theme designed to celebrate the Cardinals last playoff appearance.

AWESOME…that was my favourite period in music during my lifetime, when I was 15-16 years old.

How about Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers? If you haven’t heard of them check them out, and they’re from AZ.

Yeah, they should be looking for another mid-1990’s band from AZ: the Ginblossoms. They too made bland, crappy music from that era and haven’t been heard from since.

Finn, the reason they haven’t been heard from is that the lead singer commited suicide in the late ’90s.

Wait — I thought that the lead singer who killed himself did so in 1993, before the GB’s hit it big. My recollection is that “Hey Jealousy” was about that singer?
