D.C. Politics Are a Tricky Thing

The 2008 election is starting to heat up. And by “2008 election” I’m not referring to the presidential election, but to Kwame Brown’s bid to be re-elected to the D.C. City Council. That’s Kwame R. Brown the politician, not Kwame J. Brown, the draft bust.

In 2004, when Brown successfully won a seat on the D.C. City Council, he was undoubtedly aided by the great hopes and expectations associated with the Wizards draft pick of the same name. What a difference four years makes. Now Brown is working towards re-election in spite of the dashed hopes and animosity that are associated with his moniker.

The question is, will D.C. voters be able to look past Kwame J. Brown’s terrible struggles, or will his inability to grasp even the simplest NBA fundamentals spell doom for Kwame R. Brown?

Brown clearly has a long road ahead of him, and in order to win over D.C. voters he has already has built an extremely impressive web site. Brown has also made sure to distance himself from anything that could lead to a cake-related incident. The bad news? Potential republican opponent Juwan L. Howard didn’t make it out of the primary.
